He is a Senior Director serving clients in Power and Utilities, Infrastructure and Govt Policy domains. With more than 20 years of Advisory experience in the Power sector he has held Leadership and global positions at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Deloitte, Accenture and boutique organisations successfully leading projects in the areas of Power sector Reform policies, Financial evaluation, Organisation Review, Revenue Improvement, Tariff & Regulatory Affairs, Privatisation / Transaction Advisory, Renewable Energy and EV policy.

Along with an Executive degree in Strategy from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, he holds a Master’s degree in business administration (Finance specialisation).

He has in-depth experience in developing sector pathways in landmark and large power sector reforms project implementation in India and South Asia and worked in almost every large Reform, Restructuring and implementation of flagship national programme for Utilities in India. He is also an expert in Infrastructure and Government projects in the Policy and PPP areas.

With these diverse experiences in around 50 national and international utilities, Electricity regulatory commissions and state governments Umashankar’s clients included Utilities and Energy companies, Governments, Regulatory bodies, IFIs and industry associations and his client counterparts were senior functionaries like CEOs, heads of govt. depts., CEOs, CFOs etc in India, Africa, South Asia as well as Middle Eastern countries.

Umashankar has significant experience in projects sponsored by IFIs like the World Bank, ADB and DFID since the beginning of his career successfully delivering projects for the IFIs and DFIs, and conversant with their strategic Country and specific programme requirements.
